I have photographed many Great Blue Heron in NC, SC, GA, and FL and it’s always a challenge to capture a nice pose of a heron in flight as they more often than not fly directly away giving up only a view of their tail end. They forage wetlands, woodlands, grasslands, and coastal areas and their slow wingbeats and massive silhouettes make them pretty recognizable whether they’re high-altitude flying or gliding the shoreline.
